Grand Opera on Erfurt Cathedral Hill
When the sun sinks into the horizon on balmy summer evenings, Erfurt's Old Town is transformed into a large open-air stage. Operas and musicals are performed on the 70 steps of the Cathedral Hill during the Cathedral Steps Festival - a unique experience.
Music with a Grand Backdrop
The first notes of the overture sound in front of the cathedral and the Severi Church, and set the mood for an extraordinary evening. Visitors from all over the world are enchanted by the Domstufen Festival. Classics such as Bizet's "Carmen", Puccini's "Tosca", and Verdi's "Troubadour", but also Umberto Eco's "Name of the Rose", which premiered here as a musical, have already been brought to the stage in Erfurt - or rather to the steps. Look forward to outstanding performances against a historic backdrop!
One of the largest Old Towns in Germany
Erfurt's Old Town is one of the largest historic city centres in Germany. The cathedral hill with its two churches dates back to the early Middle Ages and forms the heart of the Thuringian state capital.
