Swabian Alb Cycle Path – through geological wonderland
Rock formations, craters, caves, plenty of half-timbered houses and Staufer castles: the eight stages of the new route from the Albtrauf to Lake Constance are a real firework display of impressive sights.
417 kilometres is quite the challenge. After all, the route not only connects Bavaria with Baden-Württemberg and the Swabian Alb with Lake Constance, but also links cultural highlights such as Lichtenstein Castle with a number of geological highlights. These include meteorite craters, volcanic relics and fossil sites. The Danube Sinkhole in Immendingen and its re-emergence in Germany's largest spring, the Aachtopf, is also breathtaking. Meanwhile, the thermal springs in Bad Boll and Bad Urach promise warmer waters. If you want to stay dry, there are plenty of spots for relaxation elsewhere, at any rate at the best vantage points on the Albrand.
