Today the skyline of the Havenwelten Bremerhaven with the Klimahaus, the Zoo at the Sea, the German Emigration Center and the German Maritime Museum characterise the cityscape. Modern exhibition concepts allow the present to be understood by exploring the past, with topics such as migration at the German Emigration Center, climate change at the Klimahaus and modern treasure hunts at the German Maritime Museum. The covered pedestrian zone, the Columbus Center and the Mein Outlet are the ideal place to enjoy a stroll and nice shopping. First-class fish restaurants, restaurant ships and shrimp fresh from the boat - all this can be experienced at the Shop Window Fishery Harbor.

Cycling tours in Bremen
Cycling in Bremen isn’t just part of daily life, it’s ingrained in the culture and, of course, a lot of fun. Cycle routes follow the river Weser and run alongside canals and through green spaces. They pass through quiet, residential parts of the city as well as busier quarters, and connect places of interest, cultural attractions, science hubs, parks and landscapes.

The beginnings of Bremen's 'green lungs' can be found right behind the exhibition centre close to the main train station. Bremen Bürgerpark and the neighbourings municipal forest are perfect for a walk at any time of the year.

Located at the mouth to the North Sea, Bremerhaven, and the surrounding area, offers outdoor enthusiasts a variety of exciting water sports, like sailing, waterskiing and wakeboarding. Those with a passion for cyclingwill enjoy biking to or from Bremerhaven along the beautiful North Sea Cycle Route and the River Weser Cycle Route. Once there the Seaside City can be explored along two interesting cycle routes. The Fish & Ship city route and the nature route Water, Wind and Grasslands.

Traveling is for everyone

The largest city on Germany's North Sea coast, the seaside city of Bremerhaven is the first city in Germany to be awarded "Tourism Location Accessibility Tested" by the German Seminar for Tourism In addition to bundles of offers on various topics, almost 30 establishments in the tourism service chain have been certified, thus providing reliable and uniform nationwide information on facilities, dimensions, etc. for people with a wide range of disabilities. This reliable information enables guests to plan their own individual vacation. The proximity to the water is particularly beneficial for people with respiratory diseases, and the wide open spaces and level conditions make it easier for people with walkers, wheelchairs, strollers and bicycles to get around.

Bremerhaven took second place in the competition for the European Access City Award (barrier-free city), beating out 50 European cities as early as 2021. Bremerhaven convinced the jury with its high-quality range of offers in the tourism and leisure sector. The Access City Award is presented to cities that are successfully working to become more barrier-free for residents and guests of the city and to promote equal access for people with disabilities to urban life and to further develop offers and initiatives.
